We retreat indoors to warmth born of Summer dry wood and afternoon kindling collections. All ruddy cheeked we view the changing landscape through window frames; it’s preparing for its hibernation as the colour dials down to muted shades of green and grey.
And as the light fades and tree sap retreats down branch veins, nourishment for our feathered friends starts to dwindle. A pine cone, lard and birdseed our rudimentary tools. Then the simple task of packing the softened fat in amongst the opening cone then rolling it through seed.
An indoor project that draws our thinking out from our warm cocoon and plants us in a world of survival, compassion and stewardship. A connection through our window; a connection to the earth.
